Blackwater Ranch

Tammy, my wife, has suffered a severe stroke and is currently doing rehab to learn to walk and talk again. I am dedicated to her recovery effort and will not be training horses anymore. I don't have the time and cannot risk injury. I appreciate all of you who have had horses in training and all of you who have inquired about training. Thank you for supporting Blackwater Ranch.

I am sorry to hear about Tammy. Please keep up your spirits and tell her never give up. I work in a physical therapy department and have seen wonderful things happen when on one thought they could or would.

If there is anything I can help you with, please give me a call and I will if I can.

THIS COULD HAPPEN TO YOU. My wife is 41 years old and is in great shape and was active and ate healthily prior to the stroke. She had high blood pressure that was not medicated and as a result a vessel popped in her brain and she bled into the brain. We thought high blood pressure and strokes were for old people but it can happen to you at any age. Please check your blood pressure and get medicated if it is high. Even if it isn't super high it can spike unexpectedly and you could stroke out if not on medication. Please take this seriously, we didn't and she almost died. She was just seconds away from death and now we are left with the devastating effects of the stroke. But, thank God we still have her.

You are so right. I thought the same thing about strokes and high blood pressure, even after working at a hospital for 18 yrs!! Then I started having headaches all the time, fell awful, palpitations and other symptoms. Lucky for me I decided to visit a cardiologist. To my dismay I now have high blood pressure and a thickened heart muscle. I currently take meds, but the damage is done. If you even think or occasionally have high blood pressure, GET IT CHECKED OUT.

Hang in there John & Tammy

Hi Barbara,

Thanks. Yes we are in great spirits around here, we are just so thrilled that she is still with us. Did you have any problems viewing the video? Were the last words in the video "control your blood pressure." ?

John,
My name is Ed Kroschinski and we do not know each other. My wife and I live in McKinney, TX. I was cruising the web this morning looking for a trainer when I came across your website. Then I saw your post about Tammy’s stroke. I could have easily just moved on, but it called to me and it immediately had an impact on me. After reading the blogs and watching the video I realized how truly blessed you are. I don’t know what your life was like prior to the stroke but I can see in this adversity how important your love for each other is. Tammy’s spirit is amazing and your love and support for her are phenomenal. I thought to myself how could I help but then realized that you have everything you need, for you have each other and you have faith.
I have no horse skills, no medical background, nothing unique to offer that seems to fit your situation, but even though I am a stranger I can offer a connection, another guy’s perspective, my prayers and my most sincere best wishes for you, Tammy, and your family.

God Bless,

Ed

John, I'm relatively new here and live in the far away reaches of the Northwoods in WI. But your wife's having a stroke reached out to me for me to share a tale about my Pa. Years ago he had a outer lobe brain bleed requiring a flip top lid (open cranial surgery) to staunch the bleeding and repair the ruptured vessel. This took place in Oct during goose hunting. As luck would have it the cold bitter chill drove him to cut his hunting day short so he was at home when he became out of sorts and collapsed. My Mom called 911 and they transported him to the local hospital but then immediately stabilized best they could at the band-aid station hospital in the small home town and took him via ambulance to the best closest hospital with a neurosurgeon.
There they said they would perform immediate emergency surgery which they did with a great success, or so they thought. Yes the surgeon did his job well however those who were prepping my Pa for surgery were lax and he developed a serious life threatening blood infection which caused him to lapse into a coma the day after his surgery just hours after we were to have spoken with him briefly and felt at ease all was well. My Pa was to remain in that coma for 28 days during which time he withered badly and also developed secondary yeast infections and was to have a stomach tube inserted via abdomen to feed him from.
My mom was so stressed she was basically giving up hope, my elder brother too was despondent, and my sister didn't say too much.
I worked in the town where the hospital Pa was in was so I paid him a visit each and every day other then my days off. I stimulated his senses (all of them) I read to him, took suckers with safety strings to let melt in his mouth to stimulate the taste, and I massaged his arms and legs and feet with peppermint oils to increase circulation and keep alive the sense of touch. I played music of wild life sounds and sang to him along with always giving hugs and telling him about the pies I'd bake him when he got well.

At day 28 I received a phone call at my place of employment, I was frightened it would be bad news since very little if any change had been noted. I also knew that it would be difficult for the hospital to reach my sister in case of emergency or news, since she worked as a Rural route carrier for the postal service, my elder brother was self employed and did not have a cell phone so it was impossible to reach him, and I really didn't want my mom to be the recipient of bad news from the hospital with her being alone. So I had instructed them to call me with any news so that I could go and be with my Mom if it were bad news.
On that morning I had just gotten the supply yard opened up working for a business in their yard as a security guard when the phone rang it was the office girl telling me I had a emergency call from the hospital. I admit I was scared it was going to be bad. However it was good the nurse calling said the doctor was due to arrive their shortly and examine my Pa because during the nurse doing oral cares on my father he had surprised her by asking what time it was?!?!?! She answered him and then about jumped out of her skin with excitement and ran down the hall to call the doctor and then call me. I got off the phone with the nurse and said I'd be right there, went to the office and the manager himself came out to take care of my duties until my sub could be called in and told me just to go to my Pa.
I did and it was wonderful. See I had been the only one in my family to never give up, because being more close to nature and my NA beliefs I knew where there is but a spark of life there is always hope for an amazing recovery.
So don't ever give up, do what is the most imperative right now in helping to mend and heal your wife and maintain the stability of family, but don't give up the possibility of doing the training once more when your wife is back to her old self.
Sometimes they don't come all the way back, but they sure nuff can get mighty close with the continued love, support and respect from family and friends.
My prayers and healing energies being sent your wife's way.
Regards and respect Julie F. Gasper aka UnbridledSpirit.

I just ran across this ad on Craigslist.  Didn't know if anyone would be interested in helping the filly find a home.  go to craigslist.com, and in the search box type in 160624039.  that will bring up the ad with info and pics.
